In his piece »Vangelo« (»Gospel«), Pippo Delbono created a requiem about the love for his deceased mother – and an ode to life. He tells of his own understanding of the gospel: a gift of love without return that serves as a counter to fanaticism, the misuse of power and terror. And, above all, of the continuing hope for beauty and love: passionate, uncompromising, pathetic and highly emotional. As in most of his pieces, Pippo Delbono works together with professional performers as well as those who are different … All of them are beautiful and at ease, the way life made them.

The term »gospel« stems from classic Greek and means »good news« or »joyous proclamation«. The gospels usually refer to the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John from the Bible’s New Testament. Sometimes the entire New Testament is referred to as the »gospel«.

Pippo Delbono, born in Varazze near Genova in 1959, is an author, actor and director. In 1986, he founded his company; from the beginning, actors, dancers and singers were members alongside with socially marginalized people. He belongs to the most innovative directors in Europe and has toured with his works throughout the world, e. g. at the Festival d’Avignon, Wiener Festwochen and Biennale di Venezia. At euro-scene Leipzig 2010, he presented his piece »La menzogna« (»The lie«) and his film »La Paura« (»The fear«) as German premières.
