Tonstörung oder Vom Eigensinn des Akustischen (Sound disturbance or About the obstinacy of the acoustic)

Tonstörung oder Vom Eigensinn des Akustischen (Sound disturbance or About the obstinacy of the acoustic)

Panel discussion

Sunday, 13. Nov. // 11.30 – ca. 13.00 Uhr
Institut für Theaterwissenschaft / Universität Leipzig

Sound disturbances interrupt the coupling of images and sounds as we are accustomed to them. »I see you speak … «, announce the resounding images on television, in the cinema and at theatre and thus conclude: » … therefore you are!«. The synchronisation of the acoustic and the visual determines our identity and our means of seeing the world. What happens when this unity is separated? Sound disturbances draw our attention to the obstinacy of acoustics: the materiality of the tones, the vibration of the sounds, the rustling of the transmission, the graininess of the voice.

The discussion will combine perspectives from the history of acoustics in the 20th and beginning of the 21st century with those of contemporary (music) theatre and the intermediality of art, in order to explore the potential of the »acoustic turn«.
