Dance piece

A man moves outside the world, half bird, half man. He resists the obstacles that beset him, and only with great difficulty does he hold on. Full of loneliness he freezes, in this place where he seems to be the only survivor. In this space there is no more company, only physical oppression and emptiness.

A book, forgotten knowledge. The records of the ancestors rise up as if from long-sunken myths. Similar to the old, lonely King Marke, who had to leave his wife Isolde to another, Tristan, the bird creature winds its way up the tendrils of the traditional sagas. It tries to build a platform to the collective existence and to overcome its shadow existence. The impetus for the dance solo »The old king« was a photograph by the Portuguese photographer Daniel Blaufuks. It shows a strange lonely man, smoking, in the fog, with a book on his lap.

Romeo Runa, born in 1978 in Cova da Piedade / Portugal, is an outstanding dancer and has performed several times in pieces by the well-known choreographer Alain Platel. Miguel Moreira was born in Mozambique in 1973, graduated from the Chapitô circus school in Lisbon and staged several shows. The company les ballets C de la B, founded by Alain Platel in 1984 in Ghent, has also become a platform for young choreographers over the years.
