Tanzgeschichten (Dance stories)

Tanzgeschichten (Dance stories)

Compagnie Raimund Hoghe, Düsseldorf
Ein Tanzstück

Wednesday 5. Nov. // 07:30 – 09:30 p.m.
Peterskirche

In 2001, the 4th German Producer Prize for Choreography was awarded to the both unusual and versatile artist Raimund Hoghe. He is not only a choreographer, but also an actor, journalist, author and film-maker. Starting from his own biography and the doubts he had to overcome as a hunchbacked dancer, he creates »Tanzgeschichten« (»Dance stories«), stories of dance, stories of dancers and their memories of their own dance story and the traces that are reflected in the body.

Born in Wuppertal, Raimund Hoghe first composed portrayals of outsiders and prominent figures before he began developing theatre works for various dancers and actors in 1989. With »Meinwärts«, 1994 he realised the first solo work for himself. The »Chambre séparée« (1997) and »Another Dream« (2000) followed, being a trilogy about the bygone century. From 1980–90 he worked as literary and artistic director for the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch about which he wrote two books.

In 1995 the German Producer Prize for Choreography was initiated by the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt/Main with the goal of strengthening the position of contemporary dance. It is awarded every two years and, through the current co-operation of 15 organisers, it makes possible a larger ensemble production with a subsequent tour. The euro-scene Leipzig is taking part in this group for the first time and is the only organiser in the new German states.
