Dance piece
A man and a woman, a tremendous love scene – this is so simple, so emotionally touching that it takes ones breath away. It seems like a much-worn cliché is redeemed and that all societal problems are finally taking a break. When looking more closely, it is revealed that an entire world is hidden within this all-consuming love full of hope, desire and fulfilment.
»Sweat, baby, sweat« is one of the loveliest duets in contemporary dance and has been seen at all of the major festivals around the world. Tenderness, poetry and desire are danced by Kimmy Ligtvoet and Steven Michel in minimalistic, nearly acrobatic movements and what must be the longest kiss in the history of dance makes the love duet unforgettable.
Jan Martens, born in 1984 in Beveren, Belgium, completed his dance training at Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg as well as at the Artesis Royal Conservatory in Antwerp. He danced for various companies, including Ann Van den Broek, after completing his training in 2006. His first evening-length performance »I can ride a horse whilst juggling so marry me« was created in 2010. In the following years, Martens has developed into a highly sought-after choreographer of the next generation. He has offered guest performances of »Victor« (2013) and »The dog days are over« (2014) in numerous cities and countries. He has been an artist in residence at Tanzhaus NRW in Düsseldorf since 2014.
