A mesh of song, electronic music, dance and sound recordings of interviews – the work defies categorization. Traditional Balkan songs are coupled with the movements of a dancer. Five women perform extremely disturbing excavations from the soil of post-war Bosnia to harmonic sounds.

The piece “Remnants” is based on the memoirs “The stone fields” by the Croatian-American author Courtney Angela Brkic, born in 1972, and the story of her Bosnian family. Confronted with the aftermath of the crimes of the 1992-95 Bosnian War, she came to terms with her own family history and traveled to Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1996 to help dig mass graves. Director Patrick Eakin Young conducted interviews with the author, whose voice is heard in the play itself.

Patrick Eakin Young was born in Toronto in 1982 and lives in London. He studied literature at Columbia University in New York, worked at numerous theaters in the U.S., was an assistant to the South African artist William Kentridge, and received a scholarship to the Academy of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Since 2007 he has directed the company ERRATICA, with which he stages contemporary music theater. Electronic music and the human voice are always the basis of his work.
