Rain – the eternal flow of life and time. Ten people in a tangle of bodies between leaping and falling. In strict order, strange dancing images arise, which are portrayed by the union of people, their common ground, before separation lets them move on.

Rain – falling in strands from the sky and shining like pearls, providing protection and offering an opening for people who are tirelessly searching. The play of colors of the rainbow vanishes on the distant horizon, driven and carried by music that enters into a close dialogue with the dance. A single rhythm shapes eternity and flows into finiteness.

From 1974-76, the American composer Steve Reich composed his »Music for 18 musicians«, a fascinating musical mesh out of a striking mechanism, classical instruments and women’s voices. The minimalistic diversity of the music gave inspiration to Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker for »Rain« after she had already worked out several productions with Reich’s music.

Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker is one of the most important contemporary choreographers and recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of her company ROSAS in the spring of 2002. Together with Alain Platel, Wim Vandekeybus and Jan Fabre, she transformed Flanders into a melting pot of contemporary dance. One recalls only a few pieces from her extensive work: »Fase, four movements to the music of Steve Reich« (1982), »Rosas danst Rosas« (1983) – the legendary piece with which she could be seen at the euro-scene Leipzig in 1992 – , »Achterland« (1990), »Just before« (1997) and »Drumming« (1998). In 1995 she founded the P.A.R.T.S. school in Brussels. Her last piece »(But if a look should) April me« came in April of 2002 for its première.
