The opera »Orpheus and Eurydice« (1762/1774) by Christoph Willibald Gluck is one of the most important artistic renderings of the Orpheus myth. The singer follows his deceased bride into the Kingdom of the dead and brings her back to earth with his beguiling singing.
Pina Bausch (1940-2009), one of the most significant choreographers of the 20th century, created her dance opera in 1975 for Tanztheater Wuppertal. She adapted her work in 2004/2005 for the dancers of the Paris Opera. The choreographer allowed the live broadcast of one of her performances for the very first time when the production was remounted in Paris in 2008.
