Transit – between love and death … The singer Orpheus is in despair about the death of his beloved wife Eurydice. Following Amor’s advice, he vanquishes the underworld with his singing and brings Eurydice back to Earth with the help of the mollified furies. However, he breaks the commandment of not looking at her during the return from the Kingdom of the dead and loses her anew. Amor once again takes pity upon them and reunites the lovers for eternity.

The opera »Orfeo ed Euridice« (»Orpheus and Eurydice«) by the composer Christoph Willibald Gluck (1714-87) is one of the most important works for the stage of the 18th century. It received its world première in the Italian version in 1762 in Vienna and premiered in French in Paris in 1774. The work is based on Ovid’s »Metamorphoses«. 2014 marks the 300th anniversary of Gluck’s birth date.

The well-known choreographer Frédéric Flamand, born in 1946 in Brussels, founded his companies Plan K in 1973 and Charleroi/Danses in 1991. He directed the 1st Biennale danza in Venice in 2003 as well as the International Dance Festival in Cannes in 2011 and 2013. He served as the Artistic director of Ballet national de Marseille and the Academy of dance in Marseille from 2004-14. His piece »Metapolis – Project 972« with the company Charleroi/Danses – Plan K, designed by the famous architect Zaha Hadid, was seen at euro-scene Leipzig in 2002.
