Metapolis Project 972
Compagnie Charleroi/Danses – Plan K, Charleroi
Tuesday 12. Nov. // 07:30 – 08:50 p.m
Oper Leipzig
Modern ballet
Man in the big city – a path into light and darkness, between high-rises and cars, in company and in silence. He moves on bridges which, for him, represent the street, shelter and passage, a passage to other people or into solitude. The big city, where there’s entertainment and commotion, but also contact, zest for life and protection.
While the camera races through the cities on a cinematic level, the dancers on the stage move ornately at a human pace. Immersed in brilliant colors, they show possibilities of society and movement in a room that is constantly changing. Harmony is a contrast to suffering, dance is a behavior pattern in opposition to a standstill.
Frédéric Flamand is the most important choreographer of the French-speaking part of Belgium. In 1973 in Brussels, he founded the company Plan K which gives guest performances all over the world under the name Charleroi/Danses. Together with world-renowned architects, he created the stage trilogy »Moving Target« (with Diller + Scofidio, 1996), »Metapolis« (with Zaha Hadid) and »Body/Work/Leisure« (with Jean Nouvel, 2001).
Zaha Hadid was born in 1950 in Baghdad, has lived in London and is one of the most important architects of our time. The administrative building for the new BMW plant in Leipzig is being built in accordance with her plans.
