In the midst of consumption, violence and pornography, love seems a hopeless undertaking. The stage is a battlefield of human desires, an apocalypse of the times. Six actors perform passionately and without restraint, and yet there are also flashes of longing for protection, for affection. In the midst of eating frenzies and group sex, aeroplane noise and the speech bubbles of politicians, a new incarnation is hiding, if you will. Perhaps all has not yet been lost …
Rodrigo García, born in 1965 in Argentina, now lives in Barcelona. In his homeland he first worked as a butcher before later founding the Carnicería Teatro in Madrid in 1989. He also worked as a writer, sculptor and in the field of video art. His plays are based on the superficiality, decadence and excess in our society. They are provocative and shocking, but also amusing and they attempt to get to the bottom of things.
»Jardinería humana« (»Human gardening«) originated at the National Theatre in Rennes, in the north of France, with Spanish actors. It’s a mixture of a cheerful brothel, political vision, bestial world events and solitary clowning. García is undoubtedly one of the outstanding and most socially committed directors in Europe. He was invited to the Avignon festival in 2002 with his »After sun« and »Je crois que vous m’avez mal compris« (»I think you’ve misunderstood me«) and again in 2003 with his »L’Histoire de Ronald, le clown de McDonald’s« (»The history of Ronald, the clown from McDonald’s«).
