Tanzstück inspiriert durch »Die Göttliche Komödie« von Dante

It’s showtime! However, from musical playback to disco rhythms, the road leads to the still depths of the abyss. Spherical bell sounds announce the realm of darkness, in which the gate that – moments before – seemed to be the entrance to variety becomes the blindingly lit gate of hell. The interplay of the individual language of movement, high-contrast light and satanically compelling music creates a specific space. Powerful images alternate from unending horror to finite beauty.

In »Hell«, Italian choreographer Emio Greco (born in Brindisi/Southern Italy in 1965) and Dutch dramatic adviser Pieter C. Scholten (born in Vlaardingen in 1959) explore imaginary places in human dimensions between heaven and hell. The inspiration for this comes from »La Divina Commedia« (»The Divine Comedy«, 1307-21) by Dante Alighieri, whose literary material is translated into physical states. What does hell mean to us? Or do we sculpt it for ourselves? Confrontation with the unknown gives rise to numerous associations of the word.

Emio Greco | PC is one of the leading dance companies of Europe. »Hell« marks ten years of collaboration between Greco and Scholten, which started in 1996 with »Bianco«. Since then, they have produced eleven dance pieces, one opera and many other works. Their productions receive invitations from all over the world and have received several awards. After the formidable success of »Conjunto di NERO« at euro-scene Leipzig 2005, this is now their second guest performance at the festival.

»A storm, which lashes down from the backlog of energy and cleanses the mind« (Arnd Wesemann, Süddeutsche Zeitung, München, 01.09.2006).
