Four people seek a place of refuge. The forest of sticks suggests a prison, but also serves as a hiding place for lovers and as a symbol for the brokenness of souls. A colorful landscape provides a mysterious place for a sensual fireworks display of dreams, longings and fears. The lost souls finally succeed in overcoming all boundaries through the power of love.

The dance piece “Double” (“Doppelt”) shows a symbiosis of sound and movement in a poetic crossover of cultures. The very unique body language combines hip-hop, breakdance and tap dance with modern African folklore. The music consists of jazz vocals, guitar melodies and drums. Here, pure joie de vivre and deep pain lie close together; rarely does the fusion of dance and music succeed in such a stirring, abstract and emotional way.

Nono Battesti was born in Haiti in 1988 and grew up, together with his sister Dyna, in a family of artists. He studied dance in Belgium, New York, Germany and Moscow. In his choreographies he combines soul, pop and contemporary dance with African elements. In 2006, he founded the company Dessources, which includes his sister as a jazz singer and the two Belgian artists Juliette Colmant and Quentin Halloy, both married to each other. The company won the audience award at the OFF d’Avignon Festival for “Double” in 2016 and ensured sold-out performances here for three weeks in the summer of 2018 with their new piece “Trance” (2017).
