Dance performance for children (from the age of 5) and adults, based on the fairy tale of the same name by the Brothers Grimm

»H – h – h – holes in your shoes?«, asks King Cecil III from the Kingdom of Dried Mushrooms, in complete astonishment, and is met with silence from his sleepy princesses. What secret are they keeping from their strict father when they descend into the underworld at night without his knowledge, and what visions are they pursuing?

When this year’s Leipzig euro-scene endeavours to give a rendition of »Roots & Visions«, it shows that there can be no hope without children, without the next generation. The fact that children are curious and in a certain sense disobedient in their insistence on going their own way is perhaps the source of the continual evolution of all existence.

Helene Krumbügel, a graduate in dance theory from the Palucca Schule Dresden, has created a spoken and danced variation performed to music that has been freely adapted from Grimms’ fairy tales. Communication problems between children and parents literally helps them along. Music for strings from different epochs provides the setting for the interplay of a magical language with contemporary dance.
