Dance piece
»Das Triadische Ballett« (»The triadic ballet«) has written dance history. With its visionary power, this outstanding work of the century by the Bauhaus artist Oskar Schlemmer (1888-1943) reset the coordinates of dance. The choreography with its legendary costumes has inspired entire generations of artists up until today. The original choreography is not preserved. The iconic choreographer Gerhard Bohner (1936-92) created in 1977, in association with composer Hans-Joachim Hespos (born in 1938) and through a commission by the Akademie der Künste Berlin / West, a reconstruction of the ballet. Ivan Liška and Colleen Scott took over the reconstruction in 2014 for the Bayerisches Staatsballett II (now Bayerisches Junior Ballett München).
The libretto features 12 characters in 18 costumes. Oskar Schlemmer oriented himself towards dance and theatre history and shows funny and burlesque atmospheres with artificial characters, references to classical ballet as well as mystically fantastic mask dances. Schlemmer was a painter, sculptor, dancer, choreographer, director, pedagogue and poet. His objective was a conceptual renewal of the human being following the horrors of the First World War. A commitment to creating a »purely artificial figure« remains an important legacy of his work.
Ivan Liška and his wife Colleen Scott were part of the original cast of Gerhard Bohner and danced 85 performances in 32 different theatres between 1977 and 1989 across Europe, North America and Japan.
