The water channels itself a path through the earth and debris. This symbolic path leads four people from birth to death, and perhaps also from sin to redemption. »Bruzda« can be understood as a ditch created by nature as well as a furrow created by human beings.

Leszek Mądzik was born in 1945 in Bartoszowiny, near Kielce in the south-east of Poland. His pieces feature intense pictures including a great deal of symbolic power and are performed without words. He generally prefers darkness and examines genesis and decay, in »Bruzda« however, the natural light is surprising. The piece impresses through the painful depth of the metaphors for the transition to »the other side«.

Leszek Mądzik has consistently influenced the theatre of his country as a stage designer, photographer and director. He studied art history at the Catholic university »John Paul II« in Lublin and directing at the theatre academy in Warsaw. He founded the company Scena Plastyczna KUL in 1969 with which he has created numerous pieces with an ever-changing group of students and which is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. Mądzik himself appears as a performer for the first time in »Bruzda«. He was a guest at the first euro‑scene Leipzig in 1991 with his piece »Wędrowne« (»Wandering«).
