    Dance piece

Three people, three beach towels, one beach – or is it a rooftop terrace? The audience members stand around an open box and look down into it. The dancers create patterns, play and enjoy themselves. Gradually, however, they are literally sucked in by the dark mass from which there is no escape. »Black out« is a piece about disappearing, about dissolving oneself. It moves between dance, performance and painting and impresses through the unusual viewpoint of the audience with a kind of bird’s eye view.

Philippe Saire was born in 1957 in Algiers, the capital city of Algeria. His parents moved to Lausanne when he was five years old. He studied contemporary dance here and then worked as a dancer and choreographer, primarily in Paris. He founded his own company in 1986 which has been one of the best known in Switzerland for decades.

Between 2006 and 2010, Philippe Saire created a trilogy with a very dance-rooted approach that is dedicated to the human desire for entertainment. With its abstraction, »Black out« forms a strong contrast to this and has already been performed 150 times around the world. Following the performances »Nouvelles« (»Novellas«, 1993) and »Faust« (1999), this is his third appearance at euro‑scene Leipzig.
