Past and present of the Cullberg Ballet, Stockholm
The Cullberg Ballet was founded in 1967 by Birgit Cullberg and run by her son Mats Ek from 1985-93. At that time, it made guest appearances all over the world with highly innovative versions of feature-length classics and multipart features. Highlights of these include »Miss Julie« by Birgit Cullberg as well as »Giselle«, »Swan Lake« and »Sleeping Beauty« by Mats Ek. After Ek, the management changed a number of times and even Johan Inger bowed out in 2008 in order to work only in the artistic area in future. Is the present too weighed down by history? Things are currently on track for realignment …
At the opening of the festival with »Point of eclipse« by Johan Inger, a comprehensive presentation will be given of the Cullberg Ballet, through video excerpts from famous productions particularly by Birgit Cullberg and Mats Ek. In Anneli Strömqvist, who is responsible for the tours, it has been possible to gain an interview with one of the most important representatives of the company.
