Transit – between the creative process and sacrifice … A bridge is to be built that is solid and able to withstand any storm. A large number of stones are needed for this construction project that is resting large and heavy in the water and four young, strong men begin to build the bridge. But the stones are not solid. According to legend, a victim is needed for every bridge that is built to ensure that it is everlasting. Bridge master Manol faces the decision of walling in the soul of his beloved Neda …

»Vgrajdane« (»Immured«) harkens back to an old legend that demonstrates the dichotomy between love and the creative process. The immortality of a structure is juxtaposed with the mortality of a human being. The puppet theatre performs this piece almost without puppets, while the stones and water provide a natural atmosphere. A scenic miracle full of secrets is created in conjunction with the mystical music and rhythmic choreography.

The state-funded puppet theatre Plovdiv was founded in 1946. It produces up to five productions for children and adults full of dynamism and modernity each year. The theatre company has performed in over 40 countries and at numerous festivals. It established the International puppet theatre festival in 1977. Veselka Kuncheva, born in 1976 in Pleven, studied puppet theatre directing in Sofia. She has received a great deal of attention in Bulgaria and abroad with her often interdisciplinary theatre pieces and films.
