Wolf

The piece »Wolf (or how Mozart came across the dog)« by the Belgian director Alain Platel creates a choreography of song, dance, acrobatics, parody, slapstick, violence, political demonstration and poetry – a realm of senses such as can rarely be seen in theatre.

Wahlverwandtschaften (Elective Affinities)

Dance drama by Tom Schilling based on the novel of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe with the dance theatre of the Komische Oper Berlin (1985)

Somewhere in between

The experimental film portrait translates the choreographic research of Meg Stuart into a fictitious narrative. For French director, Pierre Coulibeuf, born in Elbeuf in 1949, film is a mental place where fixed identities, locations and stereotypes are dissolved.

Jeder Impuls initiiert einen Tanz (Each impulse initiates a dance)

My technique is strongly rooted in the theatre tradition. For me, dance is currently the most complete and most effective training in preparation of an actor's body for stage performance. Each impulse initiates a dance and voice training.

Films by Angelin Preljocaj

The French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj belongs to the most renowned characters of European dance. With three films we would like to deliver a deeper insight into his work.

fever

Language becomes dance and dance becomes music – in an entrancing solo about love, sex and death. The famous Nigel Charnock speaks and dances sonnets by William Shakespeare to a complex tone composition by Michael Riessler, a top-class clarinettist and saxophonist. (followed by audience discussion)

Commedia del servitore (Comedy of Servants)

he comedy by Stefan Moskov includes clownery, theatre, jazz, seriousness and persiflage. The three episodes about the relationship of servant and master were developed based on Goldoni's »The Servant of Two Masters«, Molière's »Dom Juan« and Cervantes' »Don Quijote«.

Rankefod (Barnacles)

This dance solo by and with Kitt Johnson is about the development of life from reptile to human. The symbiosis of the nakedness of the skin, the organic-animal movements and the electro-acoustic music by Sture Ericson fascinate the spectator like a maelstrom.

Kilka Błyskotliwych Spostrżezeń (Several Witty Observations)

In his abstract dance piece Leszek Bzdyl refers to the diaries of Polish author Witold Gombrowicz. In a white room a woman and two men reveal the ambivalent relationship between the sexes. (followed by audience discussion on both days)

Депортация (Deportation)

The piece was produced on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of Königsberg. The formerly Prussian city was bombed, blown up and the Soviet Union renamed it into Kaliningrad. Natalia Agulnik accomplished, together with Kaliningrad's only modern dance company, a moving choreography about homeland and hope.

Conjunto di NERO

The Italian Emio Greco created a new language of movement and took the European theatre scene by storm in the 90s. Together with the Dutch director Pieter C. Scholten, he shows with 6 dancers a shimmering universe of light and darkness. (followed by audience discussion on both days)

Buchettino (Tom Thump)

One gets enchanted by a goodnight story in the half-light of a large bedroom. The production by Chiara Guidi of the famous Italian theatre company Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio – based on the fairytale by Charles Perrault – belongs to the most original performances in European children's theatre of the past decade. Tone colours, speech melodies and rhythms develop in very delicate movements. The Brazilian Rodolpho Leoni belongs to the most distinguished choreographers in Germany and created a piece for 8 dancers based on the original music by Ludwig Stangl.

Tanzsoli international (International dance solos)

Three very exceptional dance solos from different culture areas – the journey goes from Germany via Rumania to Cyprus.

White Star

The fervid theatre play from Flanders is based on the peculiar life story of Lothar Berfelde, known under the name Charlotte von Mahlsdorf. Lies Pauwels staged associations to variations from standard, tolerance and adjustment. (followed by audience discussion on both days)

DIE IDIOTEN. das stück (THE IDIOTS. the piece)

Jo Fabian embodies like no other the free theatre in the new German states. His piece about Heinz and Hertha, composed in a dramaturgically brilliant way, reflects funnily, tragically, bizarre and inscrutably the transfer into a new everyday life. (followed by audience discussion)

Annonciation and N

Two dance pieces by Angelin Preljocaj, one of France's most important choreographers, show the beginning and end of all being. The affectionate annunciation scene with Maria and the angel is followed by »N«, a socially explosive piece for 12 dancers.

Das beste deutsche Tanzsolo (Best German dance solo)

This popular competition comes from Ghent, where, under the title »The Best Belgian Dance Solo«, it was held three times under the direction of the well-known Flemish choreographer Alain Platel. In Leipzig it took place from 1997-2000 and during the Tanzplattform Deutschland 2002. It was such a big success that we are now presenting it for the 7th time, after the break in 2004.
