Mary Wigman (1886-1973) was the most important dancer and choreographer in German Ausdruckstanz. Between 1920 and 1935, she made the new dance direction not only famous in Germany, but also in Europe and the USA. Up until today, her influence has remained relevant for modern dance.
The film shows stations in her life, her education in Hellerau and on Monte Verità in Switzerland with Rudolf von Laban, her tours and her life as a dancer in rare film footage. Interviews give an impression of meetings, among others with her student Susanne Linke, her pianist Kurt Schwaen and Sasha Waltz, on whom she had great impact.
In cooperation with ARTE
At 08. and 09. Nov. will be shown three choreographies of Mary Wigman.
