»Autumn crocus« – 25 women of different types from multiple generations scream, sing, laugh, gasp and whisper. First, the women exchange fairy tales of beautiful princes and cooking recipes. Then, using quotes from the works of Roland Barthes, Simone de Beauvoir, from computer games, films and »Antigone« by Sophocles, they make angry protests against clichéd images of women.

The Chór kobiet (Chorus of women) is currently one of the most interesting companies working in the field of music theatre in Poland. It extends beyond the traditional borders of the genre and creates its own type for choral theatre. In doing so, cultural models of femininity are broken humorously. The artistic group choreography is as unusual as the diverse music that combines rhythmic language, traditional forms such as sacral music, pop songs and original compositions.

Marta Górnicka, born in 1975 in Włocławek, studied at the Theatre Academy Aleksander Zelwerowicz, at the Fryderyk Chopin Conservatory in Warsaw and at the Kraków Drama School. She is musician, singer and stage director. Since 2009 she has worked on the development of a modern form of choral theatre. »Tu mówi chór« (»This is the chorus speaking«) was voted »Music theatre production of the year 2010« by the Polish journal Teatr.

»The ›Chorus of women‹ by Marta Górnicka is a true discovery and probably ground-breaking for Polish theatre … a truly strong, ravishing piece of work« (Thomas Irmer, nachtkritik.de, Berlin, 06.04.2011).
