German premiere

The solitary, grave and sad figure of a traveller has renounced all contact. Yet, a girl, who is lying on the ground underneath wires and who is trying to breathe, is awoken by his presence. Are we in a deserted power station or does this all come from the imagination of the bizarre stranger?

The starting point for the dance piece »Electric Girl« was an article in the New York Times on 26.04.1884, which – at the start of the age of electricity – praised girls as a sort of lighting fixture for the decoration of entrance halls, department stores and private households.

Apostolia Papadamaki, native of Thessaloniki and born in 1967, studied dance in Athens and New York and belongs to the leading choreographers in Greece. After having directed the Sinequanon dance company in Athens for 5 years, she founded the Quasi stellar dance company in 2002. As performer and co-producer she worked with the Belgian choreographer and director Jan Fabre in his productions »Je suis sang« (»I am blood«, 2001) and »L’histoire des larmes« (»History of tears«, 2005). For the opening ceremony of the 12th Paralympic Games 2004 in Athens she produced the choreography »Humanity«. In 2005 she was appointed president of the State Dance School.

Blaine Reininger, native of Pueblo/Colorado and born in 1953, studied violin, guitar and composition. In 1977 he founded, together with Steven Brown, the cult band Tuxedomoon that moved to Europe in 1981 and is currently living in Athens. »Electric girl« is the first guest performance from Greece.
