»Gesamtkunstwerk« (»total work of art«) is the magic word, which Richard Wagner used to overrule the separation of the individual fields and the division of art into individual areas, as a mark of the »unnatural order of human relationships«.

Particularly for the younger production generation, music is an essential working element. DJs and musicians are integrated into the scenic action, music is tightly interwoven with the language.

Experts discuss as to the festival theme 2006 the use of music on the theatre stage today and the »operisation of the theatre«. It is not only the former boundaries between spoken and musical theatre that have vanished. With the integration of film, documentary material and performance elements, and with the nullification of the traditional relationship between the audience and the stage, we are experiencing a trend towards a theatre where boundaries have been removed.
