amarcord was founded in 1992, by former members of the Leipzig Thomanerchor choir and is now among the world’s leading vocal ensembles. Its particular trademarks include an unmistakable tone, strong homogeneity and musical stylistic confidence. The repertoire of amarcord includes both compositions from the middle ages and contemporary compositions and arrangements of well-known songs.
This vocal quintet is a prizewinner of numerous international competitions, has released seven CDs and organises the »a cappella« festival of vocal music, which takes place each year in the spring.
amarcord will open our Festival centre with a small concert. We have chosen Leipzig composers: Bernd Franke (born in Weißenfels/Saale in 1959) and Aristides Strongylis (born in Athens in 1974), both of whom studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater »Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy«, teach and live in Leipzig.
