»Love = Chance of Impossibility«, the title of this year’s euro-scene Leipzig, invites visitors to explore the implications of love and pursue the evidence that raises questions about love. Love also implies its opposite. Love and hate are the expression of fervour, animation, emotion. There is a close link between passion and fanaticism. Integration, exclusion, extermination.
Love is associated with closeness. Animosity and hatred create a distance which must be maintained and overcome. One’s own familiar surroundings must be observed at a self-critical distance, and otherness approached without fear and aggression, in a spirit of openness and without prejudice. Here at home, not only when we fly to the exotic foreigner on his island and enthuse about him.
Foreign countries, foreignness, the foreigner, alienation. Words that are incredibly familiar. Review one’s own image of the foreigner, to see the cliché that writes off, cuts off and cuts out otherness. This is a chance to enable mutual understanding in a dialogue, to address shared issues and look for answers. Reality and perception, normality and deviation, understanding and reconciliation.
