What is told in this solo, the way this woman moves, her glances and gestures – this draws the observers into a whirlpool. The body as a hoard of obsession, the scene of lascivity and purity, sexuality and perversion.
After »Solo« (1995) for Charlotte Engelkes and »Out of Sorts« (1999) for Richard Crane, the Belgian theatre artist Michael Laub created the solo »pigg in hell« with the Berlin dancer Astrid Endruweit in spring/summer of 2000. These solos live from the unconventional collage of obsession, grotesque images of the body and the biographic material of the dancers. The solo of Astrid Endruweit utilises the Medieval representations of the enraptured and ecstatic to transform the condition of one’s own soul and sexual experience.
»Laub arranged the eruptions of his player to a choreography of fractions, creates incisions by means of blends of sound and arranges repetition. And he created a little miracles: Suddenly, you yearn for language, a level between the bodies. The voyeur wants to speak, but you can only hear the voice of Endruweit: speechless wondering at bodies of puberty and the violence of strange men. A sound that you’ll not forget again« (Ulrich Amling, Der Tagesspiegel, Berlin, 17.08.2000).
»After a few day of rehearsals she wanted to do a scene without sex or drama. I said ok but when I saw the result I couldn’t tell the difference« (Michael Laub about Astrid Endruweit).
Together with Edmondo Za and Marinka Kordis, Michael Laub founded the artists’ group Maniac Productions in 1975 that worked together in the area of performance and video art until 1979. They were already searching for a greater proximity to the present as traditional theatre can. When he founded Remote Control Productions (1981), Laub continued this work in various genres – musical and soap opera – and connecting up to the various elements of theatre – dance, drama, light, music and scenography. Michael Laub’s productions, balancing on a line as thin as air between biography and imagination, reality and fiction, are among the outstanding examples of the European theatre avant-garde of the 80’s and 90’s apart from the theatre work of Jan Lauwers and Jan Fabre.
Im Anschluss an die Vorstellung am 10. Nov. findet ein Publikumsgespräch statt.
